MINING REGULATIONS UNDER "THE MINES ACT, 1877."
Any parson discovering new gold working, and being desirous of ing an increased area thereon shall mark off a prospecting claim, as provided in Regulation XI, and shall immediately report such discovery with full particulars to the Warden, and the ground so marked off shall be protected Until the Warden shall have finally refused or granted the claim > but the Warden may, if he think fjfc, refrain from granting or refusing such claim until thegroundshal I have been visited by himself or by anyone appointed by him. Notices of all prospecting claims granted, with full particulars of locality, yield of gold, and description of work? mgs, shall be posted by the Warden on the outside of his office for public information. It shall not be lawful for the Warden to grant a prospectiug claim for any new discovery at a less distance than two miles, from any previously existing wordings in alluvial gronud, nor to giant a prospecting claim for any new discovery of a quartz leef at a less dis. tance than half a mile from any previously existing quartz workings. Every prospecting claim shall, after being marked, be held by one man remaining on tb,e ground during working hours until the application is deaic with, and, if granted, the claim must, unless by special permission of tlje Warden, be fully occupied within seven days from the date of grant. The Warden piay, if he think fit, grant a prospecting claim to the actual discoverer of new £,old workings conjointly with persons who have assisted them in prospecting either with contributions or otherwise, or with other persons who may be nominated by the actual discoveiers, although the said persous may not have been on the groqnd prior £o £he gra-ntjug thereof. The Warden may, upon the tion of any persons forming a party of not Jess than four, grant protection for not more thau three months, for ft prospecting area " at a distauce of not less than two miles from any existing workings in alluyial ground, or in the pa sb of quarta workings of not less than half a mile from any existing quartz workings: Provided in no case shall any such prospepting area, be granted within half a mile of any qther s,uch prospecting area. Provided further that sue]} protection shalj only continue in force until golfl is struck, in which „<vse the discovery *hall be reported, or until the hqlde! s are required by the VVarden to mark a- prospecting claim, in either of which cases a prospecting claim shall be iiiarW and applied for as. provided in Piegulation 11. and Y\, and .protection shall theruppn cease as .to the remaiuder of such prospecting area. It shall be lawful for the Warden to renew from time to time the proteotion for a prospecting area. Provided that such renewed protection shall not be gi anted for more than three months at any time.
