MINING REPORT.

[Prom otjr Special Mining Reporter.]

Since my last report there has heen very little to chronicle in mining matters, as the weather has been such that it was impossible to do anything in the »vay of prospecting. Several parties are greatly troubled with water rising in their workings ; and, although some cm keep it down with bailing, others iiave to knock off altogether. Irwin's claim still holds good as the two last washings were the best they have had—--55 and 54 ozs., respectively—which will give them about £2O per week per man. Conlan's party that were driving from an abandoned shaft to pick np this run of gold have got payable gold ; but they may not be on the proper run yet. A good many parties that I know have dropped in for new claims prettv handy, simply by extending their pegs and taking up new ground, and in some instances they have better ground than what they have worked. The more ground is being worked on the LCumara the less applicable are the theories that have been propounded about how the gold has been deposited, for there are rons going in every conceivable direction, and patches got in the least expected places. Where a regular duffer bar comes in, it is a more hopeful sign than having a little straggling gold, for in most cases when these, bars have been driven through, there has been payable gold on the other side.
