Firebell, which was backed for £30,000 yesterday night, is now first favorite; Device, backed for £20,000, stands at 100 to 3 ; Melita is now at 100 to 4 ; and Savanaka, 100 to 8. Later. Savanaka is now first favorite for the Cup at 10 to 1 ; Melita is at 100 to 8, and is not much thought of. ■r . v .- ♦ MUTIL&pk TELEGRAMS. The following additional telegrams fiom the Melbourne ArguS have not reached New Zealand by cable, or only in a mutilated form : London, October 9. ,The Christians, acting under the advice of the Russians, are emigrating en masse from the country between Stamboul and Adrianople. With a view to check the Russian plans, the troops of the Maharajah of Cashmere have occupied, with Lord Lytton's sanction, the passess on the north-west of Cashmere. Russian officers who have returned to Central Asia report a complete entente cordiale between Russia and Oabul. Twelve thousand Russian troops on the frontier indirectly support the Ameer. October 10. A powerful French ironclad fleet is fitting out for the East. It is believed that England, France, and Austra will bring pressure to bear upon Russia in order to compel her to observe the Berlin Treaty in regard to Roumelia.
