The Kumara Times. Published Every Evening. WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 30, 1878.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Hospital Committee was held last evening at the Secretary's office, Main street, but owing to pressure in our-columns, a full report of the proceedings is held over until to-morrow. The thanks of the Hospital Committee are tendered by advertisement in another column to those who so kindly by their assistance and contributions, have greatly augmented the funds of that institution. The 9th of November the Prince of Wales' Birthday, is gazetted as a general holiday, and will be observed as such in all post offices and telegraph stations throught the colony. Telegraph stations will open as on Sunday, half an hour in the morning and another half an hour in the afternoon. There was a very good muster of the local Rifles at the Public Hall last evening, who under Sergeant Falvey, had an hour's sharp drill. At its termination the election of two Corporals was proceeded with, resulting in Privates Smith and Palamoimtain being elected. The report of the match committee was read and adopted ;' it recommended that the firing for a representatives team against Holcitika take place positively on Saturday next, the weather not to be taken into consideration. A letter was received from the Secretary of the Hokitika corps, in reply to one forwarded from the officer in command here, stating that their men could not forego the use of slings in Hie contemplated match. As the challenge was for both teaniß to shoot on equal terms, it was resolved to inform the Hokitika men that if they persisted in taking undue advantage, the Kumura men decline to compete on those terms. The Rev. E. A. Scott and the Re-v. J. Newman Buttle were elected honorary members of the company. Mr Rugg received another batch of tickets last night for Hughes's Empire Annual Festival on the Melbourne Cup, but they were nearly all disposed of. Those who have bespoke tickets are advised to make immediate application for them, as it is understood the drawing takes place at Wesfcporfc to-morrow.
