THE AUSTRALIAN CRICKETERS IN ENGLAND.
The Australian cricketers have now completed their programme of matches in England, and. have wound up their victories well by defeating Gloucestershire, the strongest cricketing county in England, including, as it does, the three Graces.' The Australians will probably play two or three other matches before'their departure for San Francisco, which is fixed for the 28th prox., but their published programme being completed, we now give the result of each match, save the one against the Players of England, about which there was some dispute, and we have not had the result forwarded.
May 20—Notts (county) v. the Australian Eleven, at Nottingham. Match won by Notts, in one innings. May 27—Marylebone Club, at Lord's. Won by Australians, 9 wickets. May 30—Yorkshire, at Huddersfield. Won by Australians, 6 wickets. June 3—Surrey, at the Oval. Won by Australians, 5 wickets.
June 6—Eighteen of Elland, at Elland. Won by Australians, 80 runs. June 10—Eighteen of Batly, at Batly. Rain second day ;,favor of Australians. June 13—Eighteen of Longsight. Won by Longsight, 2 wickets. June 17 —Gentlemen of England. Won by Gentlemen, in one innings. June 20—Middlesex, at Prince's. Won by Australians by 98 runs. June 24—Twenty-two of Birmingham. Drawn match. Bain.
June 27—Eighteen of Hunslet. Drawn match.
July at Sheffield, return match. Won by Yorkshire, 9 wickets. July 4—Eighteen of Stockport. Won by Australians, 149 runs. Orleans Club Eleven. Drawn game. Eighteen of Swansea. Won by Australians in one innings, with 37 runs to spare.
July 11—Eighteen of Oldham-. Drawn match.
July 15 Leicestershire, at Leicester. Won by Australians, 8 wickets to spare. July 18—Eighteen of Hull. Won by Australians, 10 wickets to spare. July 22—Cambridge University. Won by University in one innings. July 26—Eighteen of Crewe. Australians won by 100 runs. July 29—Eighteen of Keighley. Won by Australians, 7 wickets. August I—Eighteen of Rochdale. Rain. Drawn match.
August 5 Twenty-two of Buxton. Rain. Drawn match.
August B—Eighteen Liverpool StanleyClub. Won by Australians, one innings. Eighteen of Burnley. Rain. Drawn. Eighteen _of Dudley. Rain. Drawn. August 15—Lancashire, at Manchester. Drawn match.
August 19—Eighteen of Yeadon. Won by Yeadon, by 24 runs. August 22—Eighteen of Scarborough. Won by Australians in one innings, with 46 runs to spare. August of Hastings. Won by Australians in one innings, with 47 runs to spare.
August 29—Sussex, at Brighton. The match was drawn, though we notice an undated special cablegram states that the Australians won by seven wickets; "September 2 Players of England i First innings—Players, 87 ; Australians,' 77 ; result of second innings' not yet telegraphed.
September s—Gloucestershire, at Clifton. Australians won by 10 wickets. It will thus be seen that out of the 33 matches played, the Australians won 15 and lost 6;• 11 were drawn j and one is not accounted for. Of the nine County matches, the Australians won 5, lest 2, and two were drawn.
