[press agency.] Auckland, August 28. The Wanaka with the southern mails leaves Onehunga at 9 o’clock this morning for Taranaki. The east coast mails, per Tanpo leaves to-morrow. The Zealand ia sailed for Sydney-at 5 p;m ■ today.
Wellington, August 28. The Zealandia left London May 29 th. She brings a full cargo of general merchandise, and 46 passengers, all well. She left in company, with the Halcione for Auckland, and parted with her after .eight days. Had a fine weather passage with the exception of one gale, which carried away the poop skylights.; • t Christchurch, August 28. The termination of the grain season has led to a considerable demonstration of the working staff. A petition numerously signed is to be at once forwarded by the Mayor of Rangiroa to the House of Assembly, praying Government to carry out the extension of the Northern Railway from Amberley to Hokitika via Ahaura and Greymouth, with a line from Ahura to Reefton, eventually to connect Christchurch with Nelson.
LATEST UNPUBLISHED. WRECK OP THE EAIUMA, AND ALL HAI£DS. Waitara, August 29. Newi was brought in this morning by a Native from Kawabia, that the schooner Kaiuma, whiclr left here on the 14th inst,, with a cargo of cattle* is a total wreck off that place. All hands perished.
