PUBLIC MEETING AT DILLMAN’S TOWN. A meeting was held at the Empire Hotel, Dill man’s Town, last evening, to take into consideratio?i the present ■position of the County of Westland as afire ting this district.” Owing to the inclemency of the weather it was naturally supposed bv many that the meeting, though adverted, w.mld be postponed, and in consequence the attendance was but small. MrT. Clark occupied the chair, and Messrs Blake and Saddon explained that the action, of the County Council in levying the present rate was unjustifiable, ms the Arahura Road Board had also stru k a rate, and the people of rh-> district could not be expected to ,c mtri ia'.c a double quota to the revenue
| Previous to any resolution being
moved in the matter at issue, it was thought advisable by those present to adjourn the meeting, to allow the Chairman of the Arahura Road Board to be present, and explain certain statements made relative to that body. This was agreed to, and the meeting was, by the ruling of the chair, adjourned for one week.
