KUMARA PROSPECTING ASSOCIATION.

A deputation of the above associa-

tion, consisting of Messrs Wylde, Cuming, and Dungan, waited upon M. Price, Esq., the Warden for the district, last evening, to bring under his notice the objects the Committee have in view, and seeJt his assistance in securing aid from the Government. * Mr Price gladly welcomed the deputation. Mr Dungan explained the purport of their visit, and Mr Wylde read the correspondence with the Government, re the subsidy. Mr Cuming stated that the Committee were bent upon acting with energy and prudence in all respects. Mr Price, in reply, remarked that the business in hand had his warm sympathy. He thought the regulations were clear in their meaning of support. A full explanation to Government was needed, and if a start was made new country must be - prospected, not near old workings. The support sour ht for cold not he secured on any other grounds. He had had some experience of the working of the Kanieri Prospecting Association. He asked what country was it the intention of the Committee to try. Mr Dungan pointed out that there were two likely lines of country ; one lay between Kumara and the beach ! the other, betw.een the Larrikin’s .and Christchurch road. The Committee had not the means of equipping two parties ,• but if Government aid was got, that would be one. In the meantime, one party would be sent out. Mr Price was glad to hear it; he promised to do what he could for them. He would still adhere to the two conditions essetial to success—new country must be tried, and good working men employed.

The; deputation having thanked the Warden then withdrew.
