At the Resident Magistrate's Court, Mr Travers laid an information against T. K. M'Donald, auctioneer, for breach of the 52nd section of the Law Practitioners' Act, 1871, bv preparing a conveyance ill his. office. The defence was that the charge made in connection with the matter Was not for preparation of lease, but as commission for leasing the property which the document conveyed. It appeared from the evidence that all the negotiations for leasing property were made in McDonald's office. The Magistrate took the view that the charge was for commission, and dismissed the information without allowing costs. -1Alexandra, June 24.

At the Nelson TKst.rict Court to-day Judge Broad delivered judgment in the case Thiel, of Westport, against the t 'orporation of Nelson. The action was himisrht to recover .£2500 damages for injuries sustained through the alleged slippery and dangerous state of the footpath. Two legal objections were faken l>y defendants, viz., that the Municipal .'Corporation Act casts no duty unon thein, and also thai they had no notice. These were over ruled, hut the court found f>r the Corporation on the ground that their Was nothing unusual or improper in tin- construction of the path, and that plant iff might, with reasonable care have avoided the accident. The ceremony of dedieaton commenced by reading; the first three verses of Ist chapter of Genesis, which was followed by the anthem " Father of Light." On application of Brp. P. M. DransfieM the lodge was formally examined and Brother Archibald Dug-, leby having returned the working tools, the U.P.G.M. expressed his approval. Bro. P.M. Price then announced the desire of the Brethem that the Hall be I consecrated according to ancient f:>rm and usage, upon which the Brother ('haplain read the consecration prayer.
