The Kumara Times. Published Every Evening. MONDAY, JUNE 24, 1878.
The unrelenting hostility with which the' Weat Coast Tirae.s pursues Mr Fitzgerald, is entirely in keopiug with the policy of that journal. There are probably but few persons in i he Holdtika district who have not at one time or other been vilified by ihe print referred to, consequently its 'uvikuess in the scurrility line is tolerably well known, but it is a noteworthy fact that, the .-.bu.se ~f the W«-«st Coa-h Times has invariably assisted m u st materially in turning p'nblio opinion in favor of the object of ;ibuso. Honest criticism should be respected from ;very decently conducted journal, but for thU, we may look in vain iu the columns of the
Wot Coast Times, and in its place we find wilful distortion of facts, and a general style of language framed upon the most approved Billinsgate pattern. We desire it to he understood that we do uot appear in th* character of apologists for Mr FitzGoiwld hut we simply desire to enter a protest against the excessively unfair tone adopted towards a gentleman against whom certain writers have persona! spite. Unless fhe West Ccytst Times speedily changes its tactics, it. should adopt as .its motto tlie.se highly appropriate words :—" Envy, hatred, malice, and all uncharitableuess."
