In response to the requisition of seventy of the burgesses of Knmara, His Worship the Mayor has convened a public meeting to be held to-night, for the purpose of taking into consideration the desirableness of petitioning .His Excellency the Governor to cancel rhe Education .Reserve within the Borough, and to throw the land open for sale. Those who are the prime movers in this matter will doubtless be able to explain to the meeting the "machinery by which they believe this can be done—i.e., if their idea is that the Borough shall reap a direct benefit thereby. In the meantime we must., in the fac of the following clause of the " Waste Lands Administration Act, 187 G," admit that we cannot see clearly what can result from any ae-ion that the me-ting may take. The clause is as follows: '• The Governor may make reserves and endowments for Kdneational purposes, subject in every case to the di'-api.cnval (complete, partial,, or in the form of
amendments) of the Assembly, to be expressed by joint resolution of both Houses of Parliament. All lands reserved as endowments to be open for sale, subject to the Waste Lands Act of their district, the proceeds to be paid to the persons representing the institution enowed." It appears that the land is already open for sale, and that only by such saie can the Education Board part with it.
