Timaru, May 30. Through the police uot having fi.st obtaiued a warrant, they tailed to arrest James Blytlie, commercial traveller, of Duiie>.li», who is out on hail, awaiting his trial on a charge of embezzling moneys belonging to the Albion Brewery Company. The police traced the absconder to the barqiu-ntine Annie Bow, getting ready to sail for Sydney. Before the boat reached the vessel the absconder spied th-m and took fli.rht to another boat, the M-ndoza. On the arrival of the 'police officers on bonnltha- vessel Blytn.- went down into the cabin, and did not come up again. One policeman went clown, out was assaulted by Biytiie ami the crew, the latter wanting him to show a warrant for the arrest. They refused, a-id eventually the police returned ashore, and got a proper warrant to arrest Blythe, but before that <-ould I>h obtained, the vessel sailed, for Sydney, with the absconder aboard. Bell, farmer, was charged with sheepstealing, and committed for trial at the next sitting of the Supreme Court, Timaru.
