Christchurch, May 15. At the Magistrate's Court this morning James Woodford, an elderly man, third master of the East Christchurch School was committed for trial for a criminal assault on a girl ten years of age who attended the school. The evidence appeared very conclusive. At the termination of the case the mother of the girl, in a very excited state, made her way into the Court, and threateued to kill Woodford.

Lyttelton, May 15. Constable Daniel Devine fell down dead at the police barracks here to-day. The suppose cause of death was a rapture of a blood vessel. The deceased has been stationed here for some time, and was much resp2cted. Dunedin, May 15. Mr Wilson's house at Well Park was burnt down this morning. A royal Coramission will be appointed to inquire into Booth's conduct.
