Dunedin, April 27. The pro pectus is advertised of a company to take over from Reid and Fenwick the Otago Daily Times and Witness newspapers. The capital is £40,000 in £lO shares, .£30,000 to he called up. It is announced that half of the shares have been already taken up by the provisional directors, amongst whom are the Hon. W. H. Reynolds, Sir J. Richardson, Hon. R. Campbell, Captain Fraser, Hon. Mr Stout, Judge Chapman, Dr. Hocken, John Reid, (Corner Bush), Leary (Mayor), Marshall (Marshall and Copeland), Hallenstein, Guthrie (Guthrie and Larnach), Fenwick, Bastings (M.H.R.), and Hardy (architect). The balance-sheet for the last half-year shows the pron'ts'of late to be 18 per cent on the capital to be called up. Reid and Fenwick retain 350 shares each, and retain the positions of editor and managing director respectively for two years.
LATEST UNPUBLISHED. RYAN'S SECOND TRIAL. [from our own correspondent.] Hokitika, April 29. Ryan's second trial was begun before Judge Richmond at ten o'clock; the couusel the same as before. Mr South opened the case for the prosecution. MessYs 'Prfce, Srnyth.and. D r r Atcheson w_ere examined and gave " the same evidence, as at the hist trial. Twelve of the jury weie challenged by the prisoner and as many by the Crown.
