KUMARA HOSPITAL MEETING.
Last night, notwithstanding the adverse state of the weather, a largelyattended meeting of subscribers to the Kumara Hospital was held in the Theatre Royal, several persons taking put tickets in the room in order to qualify themselves to vote.
Mr Anchor was voted to the chair, and said that a statement would be made to the meeting, previous to the election of a Committee, relative to the existing financial position of the Hospital. Mr Croumbie-Brown then read the telegram (already published) received by him from Sir George Grey, stating that a sum of £6OO had been granted by the Government, free of conditions. He also read a telegram,-received yesterday afternoon, stating that a sum of £194 11s had been passed for payment as subsidy to the Hospital, beiiig £ for. £ on the local subscriptions since the commencement of the ye u*. He pointed out that, deducting £2O for existing liabilities, the new Committee would start with a credit balance of £774 1 Is.—(Applause.) The following gentlemen were then elected members of Committee, with power to increase their number to twenty : —Messrs Birch, Todd, Fergus Barrowman, George King, CroumbieBrown, Ancher, M. Griffiths, Everett, O’Hara, David Williams, Salv. Gargnillo, Geo. Stewart, John Rogers.
After the public meeting, a meeting of the newly-elected Committee was held, when it was resolved to meet next Monday for the election of a President, Mr Nicholson consenting to act as Secretary pro tern.
