When dealing with the Hospital question in our issue of Saturday, we promised to return to it, and to-day to lay before our readers information that might be useful to them when at a later hour the subject will be discussed by the citizens in public meeting assembled. To a great extent thi# promise was made in the expectation that an important telegram from; the Government would le received in time to pefrtift of„its publication this evening, and of our commenting upon it. Should that telegram arrive after we have gone to press, and before to-night's meeting closes, it will be made public; and in the meantime we must perforce postpone following up the intended argument. It appears to us, however, that it should be unnecessary to add one word to what has already been written. Kumara supports 1 publichouse to every 25 of its population; it gives away quite £4OOO per annum to ininerarit mountebanks and wandering' lecturers; \ and yet there, are those amongst ua who say that £6OO a-year cannot be raised to assist the poor and the afflicted. Shame' upon the men who make this assertion if (as we believe it to be) it is untruthful; and still greater ohanie on Kumara if, what appears to us to be a monstrous slander, prove after all to be but the naked truth 1
