The latest telegrams from Europe relative to the Eastern complication are still of a threatening character. The question is now reduced to a trial of diplomatic strength between England and Russia, and so far, it would appear, the former has been able to obtain from the latter various concessions of an important nature with respect to the pro... posed terms of peace with Turkey. But the point has now apparently been reached at which Russia, despite the position taken up by England, means to make a stand ; and it is .very questionable whether the proposed International Congress will be held, or if held that any war will be averted. While anxiously awaiting the outcome of the, present situation, it must be giatifying to all British subjects to see tho proud and independent position assumed by Her Majesty’s Government.
