THE CHURCH OF ENGLAND CONCERT.

The crowded audience at’ the’ Tlfeatre Royal last evening, to witness the entertainment in aid of the bunding fund ofthe English Church must have been most gratifying to the ladies and gentlemen who kindly gave their services, and to the Committee who so ■ successfully organised the programme presented. After a choice and well-played selection by the'Dillman’s Town Band, the concert followed, consisting of gle&j, duets, ;!and ; solos. The m/ peated approbation shewn by the audience was sufficient testimony of the merits Of . the performers. The programme was carried out in its entirely with the eifepl’ tion of a song by Mr Andrews, who fbuird • an efficient substitute ih Mr Spence; .'and from the fact of the chorus to his song being taken up by a large portion of those present (Old John Barley- Corn) ;it must still be as popular as ever. ; The farce of Ticklish Tunes concluded, the entertainment, and the admirably droll manner in which hfy Jolly played the part of Laiincelot Griggs was almost enough id secure the success of the piece. He had, however, the good fortune to be backed «p by a company fully conversant with their work, and who understood how much ‘ depended upon their making the most of their points and jokes, without exaggerating the characters. This brbught* to a close a thoroughly- enjoyable evening, and we must congratulate those ladies and gentlemen who were instrumental in providing it, upon the results s achieved by them on this occasion. The names of those who took part in the entertainment are, Mesdames Phillips, Homeman, Doyle, Birch, Oroumbie-Brown, Henne, : and Magee ; Mdlles Byrne,, Seddon, George, Ferris ; and Messrs Phillips, .Banish, Seddon, Davidson, Spetlce,' ’Taylor, Jolly. Moigan Costello, North and Berry.
