At a meeting of the Colonial institute Sir Julius Vogel read a paper on New Zealand and the South Seas, in relation to the Empire. The principal speakers were Sir Jaines Fergus.son and Messrs lorreus and Casey. Faction, rioting has occurred at Toronto, One hundred and fifty persons were injured. • Stafford Northcote, replying to a question, said if an agreement were arrived at respecting what England requires, the Congress may meet about the end of March. The llussians wish to embark homewards at Bojukdere. The Porte objects. Melbourne, March 21. The steamship Assam, wi h the Suez mails, arrived at, Albany yesterday. She has a heavy passenger list. Sydney, March 21. In the Assembly last night the Post-master-General stated that the Cable Conference would probably consider the renewal of the postal contracts with the Imperial Government. Tfie New South Wales Government expected equal advantages for the San Francisco route as given to that via Suez. Sailed—Kasbv.
