A Gazette extraordinary to-night contains a proclamation further postponing the next meeting of Parliament to Thursday, the 23rd May next. The Government steamer Stella has been ordered from the .north, where she has been buoying several harbors, to return to Wellington, to attend 6n< Sir John Coode during his inspection of the ;_New Zealand harbors. -'-■.'••

It rained incessantly all Sunday and Sunday night, and there was a big flood in the Inangahua. The sports commenced this morning in phe face of very disagreeable weather; towards noon however it cleared up, and 700 paid for entrance to the ground. All the events were well contested. The points for the Grand Handicap standTom Coy, 15 ; Vaughan, 5 ; Smyrk, T. Cochrane, Adamson, 3 points each ; Webber 2 points. Coy has virtually won the first prize in the handicap.

After the Judge's summing up in Jones's case the jury retired, and after half an hour's deliberation, brought in a verdict.of not guilty, and the accused was discharged.

The inquiry into the circumstances under'which the child found-in a soapbox at Blueskin met with death, was resumed at the Hospital this afternoon. After some further evidence the coroner summed up, and the jury returned a verdict to the effect that the child died fiom suffocation by' the hands of its mother, and that wi'lfullv. GREYMOUTH RACES. Greymouth, March 19 The races commenced to-day. There was a larger number of people on the course than there has baen for six years.
