SIR GEORGE GREY'S VISIT.

As our readers are already aware, Sir George Grey and party arrived at Westport yesterday morning, where, quite in accordance with the Boeotian character of the place and people, the usual courtesies were not extended to them. This mornkig the s.s. Hinemoa, with the Ministerial party on board, put in an appearance in the Greymouth roadstead, and we learn from our own correspondent, they met with a hearty and cordial welcome. To-night Sir George will be entertained at a bauquet at the Grey, and to-morrow leaves for Reefton, where great preparations have been made for his reception. On Monday forenoon he is expected to arrive in Kumara by special tram. He will be received on behalf of the inhabitants of the Borough by his "Worship the Mayor, and the members of the Reception Committee, at the triumphal arch now being erected at the corner of Main and Seddon streets, where he will be presented with a suitable address. Apartments have been engaged for Sir George at the Crown Hotel, and after the party has partaken of refreshment they will be asked to go up the Lead, and inspect the workings. In the evening a banquet will take place in the Public Hall. It is hoped that as Monday has been proclaimed a holiday, and the Warden has granted protection to the claims, that the miners will turn out en-masse, and welcome Sir George Grey to Kumara. He comes amongst us in the character of the first Commonor of the colod j, and even though some may differ from his politr--1 cal views, that difference should not I interfere with the sacred rights of hospitality. We trust that on Monday Kumara will make a display worthy of itself and of the importance of the occasion.
