The Kumara Times. Published Every Evening. THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 1878.

By advertisement in another column it will be seen that a public meeting is to be held at Isdell's Hotel, Dillman's Town, this evening, for the purpose of f orming a Committee to receive Sir George Grey, on his visiting that gold-field. His Worship the Mayor of Kumara with some of the Councillors will also attend the meeting, and act in conjunction the Dillman's Town Committee in giving the Premier a hearty reception. The lecture to be given at the Hall this evening by the Rev. Mr Russell, of Hokitika, promises to be very successful. During the evening the following poetical selections will be rendered by the Rev. lecturer viz :—Scott's childhood, from the introduction to Marmion ; the War song of the- Edinburgh dragoons ; the Death of Roderick Dim ; young Lochinvar, and others. From the reports of the Nelson and Coast papers, we can confidently predict a thoroughly interesting, humorous, and enjoyable entertainment. Some really good singing will also be given after the lecture, interspersed, with recitations from Scott's poetry. Mr Gisborne, M.H.R., accompanied by Captain Fraser, M.L.C., passed through Kumara this afternoon, en route for Hokitika.

The usual meeting of the Lazar Lodge of Instruction has been postponed to Monday, 25th inst., in consequence of the anticipated visit of Sir George Grey. At the Resident Magistrate's Court this morning, before Matthew Price Esq., R.M. and Messrs Seddon and Barff J. P's, Jane Lennox was sentenced to 14 days' hard labor in the Hokitika gaol for stealing two bottles of whiskey from Mr Reid. An assault case was by consent of both parties adjourned for a week. There were a few civil cases of no public interest. Successful telephonic experimente have been made between Hokitika and ChristohurcL
