[press agency. I Wellington, February 20. Colonel Whifcmore left for Napier last night, and then goes to Auckland, where he will join the Governor, and remain there for a month. Mr Sheehan will also go to Auckland for a month on his return from Wairarapa. Mr Ballance is the only Minister now in Wellington. Thomas Luther Shepherd, of the Goverment Insurance Department, was recently suspended, but the Government, after inquiring into the whole matter, reinstated him ;it is understood that as soon as a vacancy occurs he will be transferred to the Law and Justice Department, probaly as Clerk of Court. • Taupo, Febuary 20. Three smart shocks of earthquake occurred this morning. They are becoming very frequent of late. Auckland, February 20. Mr Percival, Secretary of the Racing Club, goes South to promote entries for the Auckland Summer Meeting. Both the Times and the Press deplore the election of Mr Barton to the Assembly, and say it will be a bad thing for 1 the country in general, and Wellington 1 in particular. At a meeting of the New Zealand Shipping Company, a resolution passed at a previous meeting to borrow money on debentures was confirmed.
Twenty schemes have been submitted for the Christchurch Water Supply. A railway fire brigade is about to be established.
