[press agency. I Wanganui, February 13, The Champion Foui’-oar Outrigger Race of four miles £l5O, was rowed to-day. There were several thousand people along the river bank. The Wellington boat, the well-known Dolly Varden, was the favorite, but the Heathcote, a Lyttelton boat, was backed heavily by the Wanganui people. The race was keenly contested, and there was a great deal of excitement. The Lyttelton boat won by several lengths, Dolly Varden second, Christchurch a good way behind. A testimonial consisting of £72 has been forwarded to Inspector Feast now of Greymouth, and formerly of Christchurch, on the occasion of his removal to the West Coast. The money was subscribed by a few friends and well wishers.
