KUMARA STATE SCHOOL.
At the election of a District Sch Com mi tee at the Waimei last nig the Chairman read a report, of whi the following portion his reference Kntnara:— This school is under the' management of Mr Phillips, head teacher ; Mrs Horneman and Miss ’ Growther, -assistant - female teachers; and a'pupil teacher. As you
are doubtless aware, on the breaking out df the Ruuiara Goldfields the committee had to make temporary arrangements for a building for school purposes; this they did by obtaining the use of the Public Hall, which was considered the most Suitable place procurable at the time, and, considering tlib great inconveniences the teachers had to contend with, the progress of the children has been highly satisfactory. lam now happy to state that these difficulties have been got over by the opening of the New School. The building, as far aaappearancesgOi'is second to none on the West Coast, and: is capable of holding about 300 children. 1316 committee feel that they cannot pass the report on this school without paying the members of the Central 'Board a high compliment for'having got such a fine and commodious building constructed in the district. In conclusion, I have only to state that in two days after the opening of the school the teacher enrolled the natoes of 170 children, which I think; tends to prove the success and popularity of the present staff of teachers engaged.
