MINING REPORT.
Every week proves more conclusively than the previous one that the Kutnara goldfields, are likely -to give remunerative employment to a large population for some years to come. At the same time there can be no doubt, that not a few miners are dissatisfied with the moderate amount of remuneration they obtain for a very considerable amount of hard work, The sight of. the large and rapidly increasing township of Dillman’s Town is amply sufficient to reassure any who may doubt the stability of the mining interest here, but if anything more is required let the doubter . enter the tunnel claims and see there the amount of work which has beep done and the still larger amount that remains to be done. Add to this the numerous flumes in the air, and races and-tramways on the surface, and the most sceptical must admit that the miners at least have faith in the future. The supply of water is now distributed .almost completely ov6r the whole of the workings south of the river, and the consequence is that washings are regular and at frequent intervals, in some claims as often as once in seven or eight days. The result of seven days’ work we saw yesterday. It was estimated at from 14 to 16 ounces. Another tunnel claim we were told averaged over £5 per man per week. The lead of gold is supposed to be running in a north-westerl} direction from the back of Barker’s store towards Sandy’s Hill. Bonlsted and party (4) have recently sunk a shaft in the terrace behind Barker’s, about a quarter of. a mile beyond Dlllraan’a. They obtained an excellent prospect of 5£ dwts from a trial washing : other parties are sinking on the same line. From conversations with miner's, who are working claims about Dillman’s, we gather that they are satisfied with their general prospects, most of the claims about paying fair average wages. A p.xrty known as “ The Danes” washed up last week. The results are unknown but are bdievolto hr. satisfactory. Nicholas and party wished up, on Siturl.v, about 160 or 170 leads of di't which yielded about 3 \ punc •!. f >r a • >ut thee -. or fa ir w *eks w irk. McKenna and party, and Eeluc and party have recently washed tip -with, very satisfactory results. Of the northof the river we have nothing new tosay. It is expected that there will shortly be some gbod news from the terrace, in the neighbourhood of the Greenstone Junction.
