The usual Church Services will take place to-morrow. Tenders ate required for the erection of a Presbyterian Church in Thirdi street. There was a meeting of the Borough Council this afternoon. The election of auditors for the Borough, is appointed to take place on Monday next. There are eight candb dates, two of whom will have to be elected. ; Two accidents occurred ojt Thursday to miners working on the North-side of the Teremakau. Andrew Sievin, in trying to save his head from d falling boulder, sustained a compound fracture of one of his fingers. He is being attended to as an out-door patient of the hospital ward.—John Brisner, whHe catting a log, received a severe blow on his leg. He was yesterday- taken to Hokitika, It 5s not known whether or not his leg is broken. The Theatre Royal was crowded last night on the occassion of Mr Inglis’s benefit. That gentleman was assisted by the amateurs, and the performance, was under the patronage of the Volunteers and Fire Brigade. The pieces were'« The Ticket of Leave Man” and “ The Conjugal Lesson.” Both went off with great spirit, the amateurs having never appeared to greater advantage. The same programme is announced for to-night. The Adelphi Music Hall is keeping up its reputation for mirth-provoking entertainment. The programme is varied nightly, and appears to be increasing in popularity, if crowed houses are a criterion by which to judge. The ball fin Dillman’s Town last night, for the benefit of the St. Patrick’s School Kumara, was a great success. The room was crowded, and dancing kept up for many hours. In olden times it was customary to hang np a bush in front of a house where wine was sold, but those who sold good wine were so few that they were well known; and did not require to display their sign, : hence the saying, “good wine heeds' no bash.” Bat “ times change, and we change with them in the present day no matter how good or how cheap your wines are, you must make it known to the public, although youjsell a single garment at wholesale price as is done at “ the Beehive.”— [Advt.]
