{press agency.] AGENT-GENERAL'S TELEGRAMS. London, August 16. The Russians have evacuated the Balkans with heavy loss. A second Danube bridge has been completed, and large reinforcements of Russians are crossing. Rustchuck is being bombarded; and fighting is going oil at different points without any very important results. Mehemet All and Sulieman Pasha are pushing on to effect a junction; and the Russians, who have been reinforced, are advancing their centre and left wing. An important battle is expected. . ; There have been frightful massacres by the Turks, without distinction of I age or sex. The revolted towns and villages were burnt in every direction. The Russians are Buffering fram fever and dysentery] the Turks S| healthy. Sydney, August 18. Parliament adjourned to September 18. A motion disapproving the appointment of Mr Garrett was negatived. A very destructive fire has taken place in Gympie, Queensland. Several persons were seriously injured. Bombay August 20, 10.10. The Imperial Russian guard has been called into active service, as well as all men, capable of bearing arms, hitherto exempt General Gourka, who has gone to St. Petersburgh, returned to bring tho guards to the seat of war. Woolsley has returned into Bulgaria; There has been indecisive fighting at Batoum.
