At the next meeting of the Board of Education Mr R. J. Seddou is to bring forward a motion of considerable importance to the residents in Kumara, He is to move to the effect that leases of sections in Kumara may at their expiration be renewed for a period of seven, fourteen, or twenty-one years, and that in the event of leaseholders not renewing, the sections shall be pnt up to auction, and the improvements thereon be paid for by the purchasers at their fair value. The effect of the motion will be to render the leases almost equal to freeholds, and toj encourage enormously the building of substantial premises. We do not think the Education Board will refuse to agree to the motion, as the greater inducements they offer to people to take up their sections, in preference to those on the Government side of the Municipality, the more rent are they likely to receive and the more permanent will be their revenue. As to the benefits to be derived by the town itself, in thus secur. ing a population where already the business is concentrating, there can be but one opinion. We trust that we shall satisfaction of recording that Mr Seddon’s motion is unanimously agreed to.
