LYDIA HOWARDS BURLESQUE TROUPE.

The weather on Saturday, doubtless hid the effect of keeping many away from the Theatre Royal on the opening night of the Lydia Howarde Burlesque Troupe. There was, nevertheless, a very tair attendance. The programme consisted of “ The Kiss in the Dark,” a miscellaneous concert, and one act of “ Chilperic.” The farce calls for little notice. It fulfilled its purpose, putting the audience into good humour, and giving a favourable impression of the dramatic resources of Hie company. The subsequent portions of the programme, however, served to show the strength of the company, which consists decidedly in vocalization. Our contracted space forbids us to particularize the various songs. We have only room to briefly refer to each artist. Miss Lydia Howarde possesses a highly cultivated voice of great power and flexibility. Her singing of “The Shamrock” was a great treat. Mdlle Solange Navaro, too, is mistress of the qualificitiona of an accomplished vocalist. Her graceful and expressive gesticulation assists in no slight degree jher success. Miss Jenny Nye, has a sweet voice and correct ear, and fully sustains the reputation she has acquired elsewhere. Mr Emmett uses a rich baritone voice with much humour. Mr Hunter's voice is a light tenor of extensive range; he manages it with much judgment. In the act from “ Chilperic,” Mr Inglis was specially prominent, by his excellent make up and grotesque by-play, as Fatout, Lovers of music should make the most of their opportunity of listening to singing of the quality now offered them. To-night the programme includes the burlesque of “11 Trovatore.”
