London April, 29. The Russians, and not the Turks were routed at Batchura.
The Russians have not occupied Kalifat, and it is denied that they have anywhere crossed the Danube. It is stated that Russia threatens reprisals if the Khedive helps Turkey, and France dissuades the Khedire from interfering. There is a further fall in the stock market.
Consols down to 94; Colonial bonds generally 1 per cent, lower.
April 30. Turkey has commenced bombarding Poti, Ancria and Galatz. Russian troops occupied Ismael on the north bank of the Kitai. The Porte refuses to recognize German protection of Russian subjects. The European Powers rejected the Porte's proposal for mediation. Italy remains neutral. Melbourne, April 30. Sailed—Ringarooma.
