TEREMAKAU BRIDGE.
A numerously attended meeting was held, yesterday afternoon, at the New Rush, for the purpose of initiating an agitation for the substitution of a bridge for the punt at the Teremakau. Mr Magoffin occupied the chair. The proceedings were of a practical character the speeches being very short. The following resolutions were unanimously adopted.
Proposed by Mr Corrigan, seconded by Mr Creed ; " That this meeting considers the time has arrived, to justify the ecection of a bridge over the Teremakau."
Proposed by Mr D M'Kenna seconded by Mr T. Harrold ; " That this meeting considers the Government should immediately purchase the punt, lower the tolls, and work the same till the bridge is erected."
Proposed by Mr Lawson, seconded by Mr B. Jones; "That a committee consisting of the following gentlemen, Messrs B. Jores, John Melligan, D. M'Kenna, S. M. George, D., Magoffin, —Fitzsimraons :—Lawsen, T. Harold, and—Corrigan, be requested, and arehereby authorised by this meeting, to initiate this movement, either bj calling a public meeting in Kumara, or increasing the above named committee therefrom, calling to their aid the cooperation of Hokitika and Greyraouth, by petition, deputation, or otherwise, as they may deem advisable." :
Proposed by Mr B. Jones, seconded by Mr Lawsen ; " That a subscription list to defray expenses to be, incurred be opened forthwith."
