The Road to Te Puru.
At the last meeting of the Kawhia Town Board Or Jenkins said that tbe work now in progress of tbe road to Te Puru was not of a permanent nature, and if ever it was wanted to make the road straight a lot of the present work would be wasted. H® moved :—"Thar tbe Council be notified that the Town Board distioedy objects to loan money being spent on any work doc of a per manent nature.”
Tbe Chairman (Cr Jonathan) said tha- the -uncil had to rely on its engineer and lake nn’ice of wbat be said. He did not think tha: the matter was one tor the Board to deal with. Or Jenkin? : Tbe plan? were appt in ami nobody knew what WA-t io be done until tbe tenders were called.
Cr Pettit objected to any motion iu tended to interfere with the Council. Tbe Chairman said be was disappointed when he -aw where the road was to g.>. The Council dealt with tbe engineer only and was bound to nc c p pt hi? advise and ac-. on bis instruc tions. He had askedtha engineer if it was practicable to put tbe road straight through tbt bill aud was informed thru, it was not. Consequently the road bad to be taken where it was prao ticable.
Cr Morgan said he wag disappointed as the road wag no good to him. Or Pettit aeked that th ■ m?ti □ bs Withdrawn.
Or Jenkins: I don't miad ; I’ve had nay say. The motion was withdrawn.
