Messrs Elliott and O. Perham arrivird as Oparau daring the week with 1100 sheep, which were purchased at Mntigaweka, and only five were lost in transit. The progressive euchre party and dance, in aid of the Cottage Hospital Fund was well attended, the prizes for live cards falling'to Mrs Roberts and Mr W. Morgan. For the dance the music was supplied by Mrs Chase, assisted by Messrs ’Murphy and Robertson, Mr F. Newton being M.C.
When the accounts were being passed at the Council meeting on Saturday, Cr Babbage ar.ked for a voucher, as he wanted to gef his expenses. The others were also handed a form ; there was no argument. Cr Babbage claimed £1 per meeting, Cr Shaw £l, Cr Kearns £l, Cr Noonan £l. and Cr Davies 15s.
Daring the stay of the s.s. Waitangi io Kawhia the officers and crew were provided with amusements by the residents. Ou Friday night an enjoyable card party was held at Mr Chase’s residence, on Satuaday and Monday cricket matches, and on Saturday night a progressive euchre party and dance. An enjoyable picnic was held at Rakaunui on Sunday, about 40 people journeying thither in Mr Morgan’s launch. A progressive bridge party and euchre tournament was held at Mrs Morgan’s bouse on Monday night, and was the success of a series of successes. The bridge prizes were won by Mrs Newton and Captain Bark aud those for each re by Mrs Robert® and JJr Peterson. An excellent supperwas provided.
