A correspondent writes“Bokhara Clo-.» »n.l JFriwutl MTlttOS, a species of Tuan clover, grows on barren or sandy lands, and in a few years will convert a desert or sand bill into a good rich pasture. A sample patch of 10 acres will be sown on first furrow thia fall at Oparau. The plant catches the nikrogen from the air, depositing it in the soil, which soon becomes fertile. It kills out fern and scrub, and stock relish and fatten on it. An example of this fact is an island on tbe coast of Tasmania which was once barren, but is now fertile; it was once uninhabited, but now supports 600 people. The cause of tbe change is that a ship loaded with King Island Miiilot, or pea clover, was wrecked on the island ; tbe clover spread, en ricbed and fertalised she island with the result above quoted. On fern land tbe fern can be burned and the clover shoots up at once. If ploughed in the grass is equal to a heavy manuring. This plant eh' ild solve a difficulty on our poorer e >i s. Anyhow, an experiment is being made and the result should prove otor igting.’”
