MATAKOWHAI BIDING AND THE OPARAU DISTRICT RATE PAYERS’ ASSOCIATION.

(to tee EDITOR ) Sib,—Your Oparaa correspondent’s letter in your issue of the 30»h ult. calls for a brief reply. My uncalled for ” letter wee written because I and several other ratepayers who spoke to mo on the subject considered that your correspondent's paragraph, inferring that the ratepayers of the district bad expressed a wish for the trausferronoe of tbe portion of the riding lying to the north of Aotea H<rbonr to tbe Raglan County, should not be allowed to go ancootradicted. Your oorrespondont says with regard to the Ratepayers* Union that “ things are mixed now and it will do no good.” To show that tbiogs are not quite so mixed as your correspondent imagines I quote the following regulations *hicb, among others, have been adopted by tbe Association :—All ratepayers are requested to take part io the proceedings at tho meetings convened by the Association, excapt in matters affecting tbe constitution of tho Association, in wntcb, of coarse, only members will participate ; anj' ratepayer becomes a member by tbe payment of an anneal subscription of Is; any ratepayer wishing to move in any matter affecting the ratepayers of tbo district is requested to give notice to the secretary so that tho business may bftnnouuced for the next meeting. Oparau oorres pondent must admit that there is at least some attempt at order and that things are nr»t altogether mixed. I think that time will show that he is equally wrong in hie prediction that “it will de no good.”— Yours, etc., CH AS. BELL.
