County Loans.
In the House oi B presentativag on September 80th, Me Jennings (Egmont) asked the Government, whether they will, so as to minimise the disadvantage and loss occasioned to loeal bodies, authorise the Department to see that the valuation rolls of a County should be revised whenever necessary to bring it into agreement with the existing county map ? [Note,—The compile ion of the valuation-roll in many oases does not agree with maps recently issued by the survey Departmen, and all steps taken for the raising of loans from the Treasury are bung up in consequent.] The Hon. M'Nab (Minister of Lands) replied“Tbe honourable member is doubtless referring to an application from tbe Kawhia County Council for a special loan from the Treasury, the granting of which has been delayed owing to the county having supplied insufficient information. The delay was not caused by discrepancies between the map and the valuation-roll, but through the neglect of the county authorities to apply to tbe ValuerGeneral for a special roll, as required by “The Government Valuation of Land Act, 1896." It was only witbin tbe last few days that tbe member for Waikato brought this matter under tbe notice of the Valuer-Ge leral, who has supplied tbe Treasury with the necessary information, and, %s far as the description and bound* >es of tbe spe-cial-rating district are c •ncerneJ, there is now nothing to prevent tbe loan from being granted.
