Obituary.
REV. C. E. DAVIDSON. At nine o’clock on Sunday night last the Rev, C, E. Davidson, Congregational Minister, died at his residence Auckland, as the outcome of an attack of pneumonia. Deceased was a native of England, but came out here ■ a good macy years ago. For some I limo he followed the trade of carpen- ■ tering, but later on became pastor of ; Maungatoroto. In that place he was I a strong opponent of the introduction j ntlf a licensed house io soiljiquar. Mr i Davidson did a good deal of hard work -it Maungatoroto and wae greatly beloved by the residents, his resignation df the charge being accepted wjlb regret some time ago. Since then Mr Davidson has resided with his wife and family in that town, but for about 18 mouths was in charge of tho Cju gregatioual Church at Kawhia, until tho arrival of the Rev. D. B. Ashford a few weeks ago. Last week Mr Davidson was attacked by pneumonia, and appeared to be on a fair way to recovery, but a change for the worse set in on Sunday morning, and bis life terminated at the age of 08 years. Deceased leaves a widow and adult I family. The news of the demise of the rev. gentleman came as a severe shock to people of this district, as it was only tho week previous that be departed. It is surmised that the deceased caught a chill un his last trip to T Rau-a-moa, aa he was suffering from a cold when he left for Auckland, Nu merons telegrams of condolence were despatched to tho widow, and a wreath was forwarded from adherents of the local church. The funeral took place at Maungatoroto. The departed was higby esieemed for his many excellent qualities, and as a pastor aud friend was genuine and true. Our heartfelt sympathy goes towards the widow and family.
