Campbell Jenkins met with rather a severe accident in the wharf abed on Thursday night last, whilst waiting for the steamer. He was lifting a bag of fungus when he slipped with the result that his left leg was somewhat seriously injured above the ankle. He was carried to “St Elmo,” where he now lies, awaiting the arrival of Dr Sanders. The exact injury is not known, but the doctor himself ’Links that the leg has been fractured. Jennings. who is contesting the Taumarunui electorate paid a visit to Kawbia, where be was met by a large number of his constituents who took the advantage of placing many matters before his notice, all of which were noted and a promise given that they would be attended to—that is as far as Mr Jennings is concerned. In the evening a large number attended at Scott’s Hall, where an address was given. Mr G. Jonathan, J P., Chairman of the K?whia Town Board, occupied the chair. At the conclusion a vote of thanks and confidence was carried on the motion of Messrs Mackenzie and Gregg. Owing to our limited space -our report could not be published this week, but will be next.
