(from OUR OWN’ COBRESPOKDKJiT). Ou Saturday evening, 26th inst, W meeting of the executive committee o! the Farmers Union was held at Mr Harper’s boarding house, Mr W. Shaw presiding. The correspondence included letters from Messrs Jennings, Greeuslade and the Hon. Minister of Lands all of which were of local importance. Mr W. J. Massey, Opposition Leader wrote replying to invitation to deliver address at Kawhia, during election campaign :—"I shall be very glad to come if it is possible for me to do so, but just at present my movements are somewhat uncertain, because it is impossible to say yet whan the session will c ima to an end, of what date will be fixed for the election. I shall be glad if you will communicate with me lator on. Many thanks for invitation, which I assure you I appreciate very much." The Sec. wad instructed to comply with the wish expressed by Mr Massey, aud write him again. Tha secretary was also instructed to write to the Hon. W. W. M‘Cardie, M.L.O. acknowledging the services rendered by him since his appointment to th* U pper House, in connection with all routers, brought forward for tha advancement of the Kawhia district: however we may have differed from Mr M’Cardle, politically, when living amongst us, I think that even his greatest oppoQents will admit, he is at least doing his best to keep the * first claims of this district in to© foreground. After all it is a right appreciation of ones efforts in life that makes life worth living, and stimulates us on to disinterested action for tbe good of our district and its people. Perhaps even those who differ widely from me on this policy will in the long run admit that honest appreciation of what has been or is being never hurts anybody, and whether be be • member of tbe Upper House, or a member of our Local Bodies, it gives him renewed courage to face tbe task be has set himself. Anyhow we all hive trials enough in this world witho it tho additional weight of needless criticism.
