The first meeting of tbe newly appointed members of the above body was held on Tuesday afternoon, when there were paesent—Ors Jonathan, Morgan, F. W. Newton, Pettit and Jenkins. The Clerk (Mr J. K. Newton) took the chair, and asked for nominations for the position of chairman. Or Jenkins moved, and Cr Morgan seconded, that Or G. G. Jonathan be chairman.
The motion was carried. In returning thank 9, Cr J< nathan said that he felt proud at tbe honour conferred upon him. The board would doubtless pull together, and tbe responsibility of looking after the rate payers was a big nae. All sorts of questions would crop up, and much work would necessarily fall on the chairman, but he knew that he would be ably backed up by his colleagues.. He could not say that tbe business transacted during the past two yearn was as much as he would have liked,. The fact of the loan, raised by the County, not having been expended prevented the Board doing work, as su far there was no foundation to start on. Departmental errors was tb« reason of the loan not being available for ex penditurs. He thanked bis e olleaguee for the honour conferred upon him, and trusted that the term of office of the Board would be productive of mush good to the town. The meeting then adjourned till October Ist, tbe statutory meeting of the Domain Board.
