The Mtirokopa Mill resumed timber cutting on Monday last.

Note the altered advertisement in Ibis issue of Messrs Jonathan Ltd.

The s.s. Rothesay made a trip to Man kopa on Sunday last, returning on Monday. The Roads Department have recently l ad ortotsd along the Aotea beach posts so as to show strangers the track across.

Daring the past season the Te Rau-a-tnoa Diiry Co.. lost £7B 5s Bd, attri butable, s j the report eays, to the drought and bush fires. The Marokopa store and boarding bouse b ive not been disposed of, and the bu-iness will as in the past be carried on by Mrs Willison.

On Thursday and Friday nights good audiences greeted Fair’s Pictures, in Scotts' Hall, Kawhia. the program mo on eich occasion being thor ougbly enjoyed. The work of erecting the Kawhia Baiter Factory is to be commenced at once; the first of the material necessary will arrive from Onohunga next week.

We are asked to state that the cheque reported at Marokopa some little time ago was only mislaid, it having been found in the room used by Mr Tern pieman. The Taumaruuui Roll is open for inspection at Mr Pjttit’s office. Duriny the past few days about 20 applications for enrolment have boon forward cl fr >m Kawhia. Lst Situruiy night the usual dance in aid of the Cottugs Hospital funds wm' held, the attendance being g)od. Mrs L ingley, Mr Aubin and Mis< Cowell provided the music, Mr Pettit being M.O. From a settler ait Kiritohere, we loarn that tbo expenditure of about t'so give a g »od traCk from the coast on to the Kiritehere valley road, thus aavhjg the trip along the coast, which at the present is such a burning question.

The Marokopa Milling Co., Ltd., having decided to close the store depirlment intend bolding a Clearing Huis of all the stock on hand, at a grot t reduction, and wish to advice all >( l ie opportunity to buy.—P. BELL, Maittger.—Advt. The Hon. W W. M’Cirdle. M.L C , ir.i-j as fjllows:—“ Kindly let settlers ki. -v that Messrs Jennings, Green- ■ d ' and myself are moving re rebate A ro u to se tiers through loss by fire. The Government is unable to assist uniil the Laud recommends.”

On Saturday afternoon the b.s. . sHmu arrived from Wanganui with GOO Fheep for the properties of Messrs A. Anderson, A. Brandon and Bean don Bros., not a single head being lost on the journey. The sheep were taken to the Awaroa landing in Messrs Morgan and Newton’e pontoons. The total amount of money repre on ted by New Zealand’s farming industry is £120,000.000 nearly double rhe value of all the cities .and borough - ; n the Dominion. The annual farm material raised is .£26,500, 000. whio’’ dwarfs the combined lo, ? 1. J all im other industries. Recently a nice line of 180 steeds were driven through from Taranaki to Meat’s Jones Brus’ sections, on the Mai- k ipa River. Mr C. Willison is expiated from tRe same place very shortly with about 80 steers which will be placed on his brother’s (Rob - ert) place. We are pleased to note that includ- ; ed in the planks of the platform of the Auckland Railways league appears the following: “Also as soon as practic able, such branch lines as Kawh’a con neccion with the Main Trunk Line.” It is to be hoped that the League will consider that the line is practicable NOW. A special meeting of the Kawhia School Committee was held in Mr Pettit’s office on Wednesday last, to consider a complaint lodged against a scholar. Owing to the occurrence having taken place outside the school grounds and after school hours the committee decided that no action be taken in the matter.

The overrun in butter making may be thus shortly explained. It is the additional butter made lib. of butter fat—that is the extent to which the churn over runs the test. The amount of overrun depends on many things, such as the thoroughness of the churning, the completeness of the skimming and the way in which the butter is handled. To determine the amount of the over run, divide the total number of pounds of butter produced for a given time by tbe number of pounds of fat in the milk delivered to the creamery during that period. Mr F. A, Pearson, of Kaimango, Awaroa, has forwarded us a grand sample oi rye grass. The sued was sown on April 27th, being thus four months old, and has reached the splendid height of 2ft. lin., which must be considered exceptionally good for such a short period in the middle of winter. The besd was surface sown, and no manure was used. There are HOacres of the same, and Mr Pearson assures us that the sample was not specially picked out, but just taken up at random.
