Kiritehere.

(from ouk own ooebespomdbnt.) There is likely to be a ch «nge io the in the mail service; which will be altered from Te Maika-Kiritehere to Marokopo-Te Kniti. The winter is on us again with its muddy roads and tracks and a shortness of feed. Some of the land on the coast winters well, carrying two to three sheep to the acre. This is the nuse on Messrs R ise Bros.’ sec ion, where last year 450 sheep were wintered on 150 acres of grass. Mr Woo Wes has h*d 320 sheep ranning ou 117 acres since April ; at tbe present time tbe etook are looking well, and the paddock will carry through the winter with ease. Mr M. Gilvan has been iu tbe district lately bujing cittle for tbe Waikato market. Some of our settlera are going out for stock witbin tbe next week or two Hally and Kinnane are going out to Waikato for cattle, and Messrs Vicary and Rose to Taranaki for sheep, the last mentioned to be landed at To Maika.

It is time that * ateim?r landing was surveyed and a whai f ereo ed at the Marokopa Heads, aod a road to connect with same. At tbe present time settlers have to trespass tn get to the landing, all goo**s being unloaded «>n to private property. A nice no* • of affairs considering that over ten tons of goods are landed monthly, which total incnaie as roads are opened -*nd addniaua! lands laid dow* tn giMBM uss, ui the road work ima stopped da funds are about exhausted, about 16 or 20 men only being employed at present- A number of new grants have been applied for, and no doubt we will get our share, when active work will be again resumed. Bashfelling is very active at present. There are about 25 contracts in handamounting to 2300 acres, giving em. ployment so between 60 and 70 men, The work is being done by 20 owners, the average being oyer 100 acres each. Mr Atkinson, of Nukuhakeri, has the largest area, amounting to 500 acres. These figures will give seme idea of the progress of this locality. Over 400 sacks of grass seed will be required the coming summer. Messrs Rose Bros, will be the first settlers to get their section felkd, grassed and fenced, as the last will je completed in a few days’ time. Some bones have been found on 'he beach, about two miles below the Kiritehere stream, having been washed ashore along with some wreckage. Whether the bones are of an animal or a human being ia hard to ascertain, *b they have been knocked about on the rock?.
