(SpKCIAI. TO tub Skttler.) Wellington, Monday. Messrs Greensiade, Jennings and* M‘Cardle have been in communication with the Government regarding the site for the proposed butter factory of Kawhia. and have received some interesting communications on the subject from the Lands'. Department. The difficulty that has arisen is in connection with the ownership of the piece of land in question. The Minister ft r Lands, in a letter to the members mentioned, stat tri that the position is a? follows : The land is a quarter of an acre, situated between high watermark and Kawhia P. No 8 block (Native land), and was formed by the action of the sea and tide. The Kawhia Harbour Board has no jurisdiction over land above highwate? mark and therefore has no authority over section, as It would if the land had been reclaimed. Neither does Town Board, seeing that it did not recisim the land. Under th© circumstances the ordinary rule of law applies, that the accretion belongs to the owner, apparently owners of Kawhia P. No 3, therefore the Government are not in a position to allot iny portion of the accretion as a site for dairy factory and the Minister regrets the application cannot be granted.
