ANOTHER THUNDERBOLT.
(to the editor.) Sib, —When I read your issue of the 19th June and saw a notejthafc a grant had been made to the Chairman of the Kawhia County Council, I think that amongst we ratepayers a thunderbait has indeed fallen, but I sincerely hope that when this £5O appears in the balance sheet that there will be something to show what this money has got for Our County. 1 suppose our county is like a cockey: when he employs a man he expects to make a little out of him above his wages It hits pretty hard .when one gets on his hack (pretty thin and tired with pulling his feet ont of tbe mud) and wends his way through the seas of mud, if this is what he pays rates for. Some throe years ago we haard talk of metalled roads, but alas! there is not even ready money enough to clear off a slip or fallen tree, for this has to be done by settlers. I saw one doing such work last week. I wonder if this gentleman applied for a few shillings if our Council would grant it to him. Well, there is one ratepayer who appreciates his act.— Yours, etc,, LIGHTNING.
