MAROKOPA TELEPHONE.
(tj the editor.) Sin.—Having noted your reasoas for not publishing Mr H. Derocourt's letters, viz., that the telephone lino (Maroko’p-i) is settled, kindly allow me space in your correspondence columns to ask a few questions in reference to the County Council meeting held on Monday, May IBbh, when the above was under discussion. Ist—When dealing with applications re refund to Messrs Thomas Brothers and 11. Daracourt’s tn'OHnyH guaranteed by them to aforesaid line, the Chairman remnrkod “That the first named settlers signod au informal guarautea,
whilst the second would not sign at all.** If the above statement be correct why should Messrs Thomas Brothers and H. Dereconrt apply for a refund and their guarantees? 2nd— also, why the Chairman suggested “giving a little more time” ? when previous to the suggestion, he admitted that “The settlers in the Kawhia County would have nothing more to do with the line ?” 3rd also, would Cr Jonathan explain “who are the many that would suffer for th' few ’.' when remarking the Council must give »)nw time, hence the hardship if the Council withdrew.—Yeura, etc., RATEPAYER
I (to the editob ) Sib, —I have noted with surprise, if not admiration, the light operatic performances in your paper, but as the times are more suited to tragedy, would be pleased if they wou’d sing Marokopa telephone line and ■County matters. Kindly invite competition ou such matters and allow the public to judge. At the present time, methinks those interested in public affairs would p.efer the former course, but probably the ratepayers can see through the yeaeer and prefc: singing something about their something in the £ rate and how it is dispensed with.— Yours HONOR i BIUM.
