Kawhia Races.
The races on Saturday last can not be described as a success, neither as far as the entru are concerned, the attendance or the sport itself. Only very few people were present, whilst the horses were so few that the Hurdle Race and the Cup had to be abandoned. Two started for 'the Maiden, which was won by the Kawhia Settler, who defeated Moerangi. The Kia Poaka race (an extra) wes annexed by F. Nesbitt’s Greybiid, E. Falwasser’s Kruger being second. Three contested the Flying Handicap, H. King’s Waitangi finishing first, T. Ormsby’s Moerangi second and M. Sebrieber’s Kaikuku third. The Maori race was won by Waitangi, whilst Moerangi annexed the Consolation.
Mr Taui Wetere had charge of the booth. The secretarial duties were well carried out by Mr J. K. Newton, whilst Mr T. Ashbolt as starter, and Mr F. W. Newtou as judge gave every satisfaction.
