Farmers’ Union.

OPARAU BRANEH. A meeting, as advertised, was held iu Oparau School on May 9tb, Mr So bye in the chair. Mr G, H. Mackenzie was appointed to attend the Conference, on May 21st. It was resolved “That this branch consider it desirable that the Provincial Executive should request the Colonial Executive to consider thaadvisi bility of the Farmers Union establi-h--ing an experimental farm, thus freeing the farmers fr >m dependance on the Government.”

The following resolution was carried: —“That this branch of the Farmers’ Union know the robbery imposed on settlers securing native lease , and wish the Government to take prompt measures to individualise all native lands, extending all rights and privi ligen of the European hud laws io the natives, aboli'hing all Native Land Courts and other para-ites who at pre sent mjke a living out of .’be obsolete native land laws ; also, that all b 1 dera of native hasea have the right of optional tenure, as no farmer cxn af ford to treat native 1 trd 'he same afreehold ; that thtg resolution be sent to Provincial Conference for tbe C >lo nial Conference, to be put before tbe House next session.
