KAWHIA (6) Ou Saturday last, on the Kawhia ground (M’Carthy’a paddock) tbe above teams met for the first time thia season, and the day being fine there was a good attendance of spectators. Tbe ground was not iu tbe best of order, but this did not really interfere with the game. Both teams were fairly well represented, though Kawhia had to get tho assistance of some who were thought to be on the “retired list.” E. Falwasser, Hamilton and Pettit stripped, and each played a good game, tbe cheer that awaited the former on his appearing on the ground being very hearty, proving how popular “Ted” is, and how pleased both opponents and members of the Kawhia team were to see him dou the amber and black once more. Tbe respective skippers were B. Atkins and P. Moki, and Moki had charge of the whistle.
Iu the first spell, Olive ecored for tbe visitors, whilst in tbe second H - milton aud T. Pouui crossed tbe line for tbe heme team, the attempts at goal failing. Daring the second spell, M. Forbes, Oparau’a fallback, had tbe misfortune to severely sprain his ankle, and be bod to cease playing. It is feared that it will be same time before this enthusiastic player will again be able to take the field.
For the wiuuers Doctor, Hamilton, Kingi, (forwards) Ngaipu, Tita, Moke, (three-quarters) Haki (half), and Falwasser (wing) played best, tbe Oparau men showing best form being Atkins (2), A. Perham, Schrieber (2), Ham mond (forward), Forbes (2), Higgins (back), and Olive (wing). The game was played in a friendly spirit throughout, and enjoyed alike by the onlookers and players.
