(from ovr qwn cobrkspondxmt.) On Saturday evening, April 11th, the annual meeting of tbe Sunohakv Branch of the New Zealand Farsaaga* Union was held at Mr Harper’s ing house. Besides the election of officers and committee for the coming year, there was several it »ms of importance dealt with. There are three remits from this branch down for discussion at the annual conference, to beheld at Auckland on May 21st and 22ud. Mr W J. Shaw reviewed briefly tbe good work done through the Farmin* Union daring the past year. Tbe sheep tax whs through tbeir exertions remitted, and were it not for the stand they made there woaid be no such thing as freehold—it would most cec* taiuly have been a thing of the past* It was very remarkable when they come to think of it how the men who had taken no share in the risks, the conflicts and the laboare of anything that was going on for the good of their district or tbeir country suddenly rise to importance aud all at once spring into activity whenever anything went wrong with the onward march of a movement. However, if this is how they hoped to capture approval their attempts must be for ever vain, for saoh tactics as those never yet seized tho imagination of a people, or carried any scheme to success.

Perhaps it would not be oat of place b« re were I to borrow a poetical quotation which appeals to me as being most applicable, and one that we ought all bear iu mind : lu fortaus and m fate we're bound By stronger links than steal. And neither can b » safe or soxnd But in the other's weal.

1 might meu’iou foi- the bsneflt of th >se whom it may concern, that this broueh of the Farnurn’ Uuioa is today even stronger than it ever h»a be ;n before, although right f cm tbe htart it has been a sucoesF,

Ou Sa* urday night several b.-rs joined. There was a stroig sx*cutive committie of nine e's ned for the coming year, W.J. Shaw bi ng rv» elected chairman aud Mr J. Kearns, hou. secrclasfp and treasurer.

Thu rules, rs laid down Lv the parent Union, were read and discussed at length, so 1 d>>nt think there ie auy impediment, either inaagii ary or real, iu connection wuh eluctiou of offieem year.
